It is amazing how a subtle change in the nose will dramatically alter one’s overall look. For example, a small nasal hump reduction will do wonders to feminize the face in some women.
Our doctor will individualize your procedure to target your problem area yet maintain the “character” in your nose and face. We specialize in helping individuals look their best through the most established techniques in plastic surgery.
Depending on the complexity of the procedure, rhinoplasty may be done under local or general anesthesia. Skin, bone, and cartilage are contoured from an incision within the nose to produce the desired result.
Many Elko patients, women and men, experience swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes after rhinoplasty surgery, but are able to gradually resume normal activities in the first couple of weeks. Complete healing can take up to one year.
Nevada Nose Surgery
Rhinoplasty usually takes an hour or two, though complicated procedures may take longer. It is most commonly performed under general anesthesia, but local anesthesia and sedation is also an option.
During surgery the skin of the nose is separated from its supporting framework of bone and cartilage, which is then sculpted to the desired shape. Contact someone that can do plastic surgery search engine optimization.
Rhinoplasty for Men or Women
Our doctor performs rhinoplasty from within the nose, making the incision inside the nostrils. Sometimes an “open” procedure is required, especially in more complicated cases; a small incision across the columella (the vertical strip of tissue separating the nostrils) is made.
When the surgery is complete, a splint will be applied to help your nose maintain its new shape. Nasal packs or soft plastic splints also may be placed in your nostrils to stabilize the septum, the dividing wall between the air passages.
After the Rhinoplasty: What Should I Expect?
After surgery, particularly during the first 24 hours, your face will feel puffy, your nose may ache, and you may have a dull headache.
You can control any discomfort with the pain medication prescribed by your surgeon. Plan on having your head elevated for the first few days. You’ll notice that the swelling and bruising around your eyes will increase at first, reaching a peak after two or three days.
Applying cold compresses will reduce this swelling and make you feel better. In any case, you’ll feel a lot better than you look.
Most of the swelling and bruising should disappear within one to two weeks. A little bleeding is common during the first few days following surgery, and you may continue to feel some stuffiness for several weeks.
You will be asked not to blow your nose for a week and avoid wearing eyeglasses for a couple of weeks. If you have nasal packing, it will be removed after 1-3 days and you’ll feel much more comfortable. By the end of 7-10 days, all dressings, splints, and stitches should be removed.
Getting Back to Normal
Most rhinoplasty patients are up and about within 1 to 2 days, and able to return to school or sedentary work within 7 to 10 days following surgery. It will be a couple of weeks, however, before you feel completely normal.
You will have to avoid contact sports for at least 6 weeks and should protect your nose from the sun.
